Folklore in New England is wrought with supernatural phenomena of women. Powerful witches, ghosts, and fortune-tellers, all encapsulate women's roles in New England folklore. I have chosen to examine female-specific characters in these myths and legends so we can begin to see the intertextual meanings behind these tales. New England folklore is particularly interesting because fiction and facts are so often mixed up that we are left to wonder what is truth when tales cause realities like the infamous tragedy of the Salem witch trials.
